In the shade of Resegone mountain and facing “that branch of lake Como which turns towards south…”, Lecco is Manzoni’s city par excellence, thanks to the writer Alessandro Manzoni’s imagination, who set here the main characters of his famous novel “The Bethroved".

Proposal a - Manzoni Itineray (Lecco city)

For groups with their own coach

Meet your guide at the lake promenade in Lecco or at Villa Manzoni’s coach – parking area at the Caleotto.

Your coach will be used to transfer you to the different points of interest as well as for a brief orientation tour of the city of Lecco.

The tour will allow you to re-live the atmosphere of “The Betrothed”, the novel written by Alessandro Manzoni as well as providing you with more insight as you will see the places which inspired the author when laying out the plot..

Visit the Museum of Villa Manzoni

Transfer by coach to Pescarenico . Enjoy a stroll along the left bank of the Adda River which inspired the author 's well- known “...Farewell to the mountains...” description . Breathe the atmosphere of this sixteenth -century fishing village with its Franciscan community reminiscent of Padre Cristoforo ,the important character of Manzoni 's novel.

This itinerary can be carried out on foot for groups of max. 25 pax.

Proposal b - "Unnamed" Castle

...Just to complete your Manzoni itinerary...Take the opportunity to visit the Castle of the “Unnamed“ - at Vercurago - Somasca. Highly advisable :sport shoes - fit for uneven tracks.

After enjoying your lunch in Lecco you will be transferred to Vercurago by coach ( 15 minutes' drive) .From the hamlet of Somasca a comfortable track will take you to the so-called “Castle of the Unnamed “, a fortified XII - century site which marked the boundary between the sea-faring Republic of Venice “ La Serenissima” and the Dukedom of Milan , ever since considered the residence of the most terrible Manzoni character.

Just before reaching the ruins, take a while to enjoy the breathtaking view on the river Adda valley and the unusual Holy Mountain track devoted to San Gerolamo Emiliani – of the order of the Somaschi Fathers. A. Manzoni was educated by these Fathers.

Proposal c - By boat...with Manzoni

The best way to understand and appreciate the background used by Manzoni for the setting of his novel is, no doubt, by boat . An easy walking tour will take you through the historical centre of Lecco : its squares, the Cathedral, the ruins and the Theatre. Enjoy a one-hour boat ride along the river Adda and the Lake as far as the village of Pescarenico with the impressive Resegone mountain as a backdrop. Breathe the same atmosphere which inspired Manzoni for his main characters : Renzo and Lucia.

Maximum seating capacity on the boat is 40 pax.
